Last week, Chinese delegates met in Washington with US Trade Representatives. This week, it will happen again in Beijing. At stake is the stabilization of global trade relations between the U.S., China and the greater world economy.
The stakes are high; a 25% tariff is scheduled to become effective March 1 on a large value of Chinese manufactured products.
The only signals we have came from President Trump in a cabinet meeting last night where he said:
“If we’re close to a deal where we think we can make a real deal and it’s going to get done, I could see myself letting that slide for a little while,” adding “But generally speaking I’m not inclined” (to delay raising tariffs) he finished.
