China Strikes Back
CHINA ANNOUNCES 34% TARIFF: China announced on Friday that it will implement reciprocal tariffs of 34% on all U.S. imports starting April 10, fulfilling its promise to retaliate after U.S. President Donald Trump escalated the global trade conflict.
This move follows Trump's decision on Wednesday to impose a 34% tariff on all Chinese goods entering the U.S., a step that is expected to reset bilateral relations and intensify trade tensions between the two largest economies in the world.
In a statement, China’s State Council Tariff Commission condemned the U.S. action, calling it inconsistent with international trade rules and a serious violation of China’s legitimate rights. The Commission described it as a "typical unilateral bullying practice."
President Trump vowed to respond in kind to any escalation by other countries. This move by China offers almost certain promise of further escalation by the U.S. We will continue to monitor and update.
